Managing Director, Transaction Advisory Services
Michael leads our Transaction Advisory Services practice. For a decade, he served private equity and strategic (corporate) clients on buy and sell-side merger and acquisition (M&A) transactions with Ernst & Young, in (i) New York and Australia, in a variety of industries such as aerospace and defense, infrastructure, utilities, retail and consumer products and manufacturing, and (ii) Silicon Valley focusing on the technology sector including internet, interactive advertising, software, SaaS, semiconductors, and semiconductor equipment.
Michael’s expertise includes financial due diligence, post-transaction projects, including designing and implementing synergy tracking, integration management office (IMO), and Board-level reporting on post-close measurement. He has also advised clients extensively on transaction structure, project management, carve-out transactions, financial modeling, transaction accounting and reporting matters, analyzing and drafting working capital adjustment mechanisms and other contract matters. He has led domestic and cross-border transaction projects with teams ranging in size from 5 to 100 professionals in Australia, Canada, China, Columbia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Spain and UAE with deal values of $1 million to $20 billion.
Michael has successfully led and participated in several 9Gauge engagements supporting CEOs and CFOs with financial and operational analysis, executive decision-making, investor relations, fund-raising and overall process improvements and implementation. He is a proven finance executive that can seamlessly scale up and down to support executives with high-level strategy and management as well as detailed complex analyses and ad-hoc special projects.
Prior to his M&A and financial operations work, Michael spent 3 years as an auditor with Ernst & Young in Austin, Texas with technology clients ranging in size from established public companies to start-ups preparing for IPO as well as a public Fortune 500 manufacturing company.
Michael holds Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Master in Professional Accounting (MPA) degrees from The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. He is a licensed CPA in Texas, New York and California.
When he is not serving clients and enjoying his family, Michael is passionate about mentoring today’s youth. He spent many years volunteering with Junior Achievement in New York and San Jose. He also trains in the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira and assists his Mestre (Capoeira Master) with kid’s classes to nurture discipline, loyalty, responsibility and self-confidence in the children in his broader community.
